Central Valley Flood Protection Plan - Local Implementation Meeting
There will be a CVFPP planning meeting 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 5 at the Yuba County Government Center, 915 8th Street in Marysville. This meeting is intended to identify flood management priorities, challenges and opportunities for the Feather River region. After community input, local public agencies will develop a Regional Flood Management Plan by mid-2014 that defines the long-term vision for flood risk reduction. The plan will include:
- description of the current flood management conditions
- opportunities for improving flood management while achieving multiple objectives (flood protection, agricultural conservation and habitat restoration, for example)
- needed projects based upon priority
- preliminary financing plans
The meeting will include a high-level version of the draft regional flood management plan and provide an overview of the plan development process. The Feather Regional Flood Management Plan is a collaboration of the following agencies:
- Yuba County Water Agency
- Marysville Levee Commission
- Three Rivers Levee Improvement Authority
- Sutter Butte Flood Control Agency

Growers are encouraged to weigh in at this important public meeting. Members may remember the subjects of levee setbacks and habitat restoration discussed at public hearings in Marysville during the approval process of the CVFPP last summer. The above meeting is an opportunity to shape the plan in our region and communicate the importance of keeping agriculture within the Plan’s footprint in production. YSFB, Sutter & Yuba County Supervisors Write WAPA
In February of 2013, growers received notices from Western Area Power Administration stating orchards on properties burdened by WAPA power line easements are prohibited, and WAPA stated the intent to clear orchard crops on right of way around towers and beneath transmission lines. YSFB mailed a letter to WAPA opposing this action, sending copies to Congressman John Garamendi, Senator Jim Nielsen, Assemblyman Dan Logue, Yuba and Sutter county supervisors and California Farm Bureau Federation. The Yuba County Board of Supervisors and Sutter County Board of Supervisors have since submitted letters of opposition to WAPA as well. YSFB letter attached.
ENHS FFA Chapter Banquet
The East Nicolaus FFA Chapter Banquet will be held 7:00 p.m. tonight, May 22 at the East Nicolaus High School multi-use room. The event will celebrate the accomplishments of the members as well as the support from the community. Donations will be accepted at the door to off-set costs of the meal.
Congressmen LaMalfa and Garamendi Headline Landowners Annual Meeting
The Sacramento Valley Landowners Annual Meeting on Thursday, May 30 promises to provide a comprehensive update of water resource issues impacting water users and resource managers. In addition to updates from Congressmen Doug LaMalfa and John Garamendi, State Senator Jim Nielsen, Damien Schiff of Pacific Legal Foundation and NCWA President David Guy will be part of the panel discussion. NCWA Breakfast Forum in Marysville
The Northern California Water Association will host its Breakfast Forum 7:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, June 5 at the Yuba County Government Center, 915 8th Street in Marysville. The breakfast will feature Jerry Meral, Deputy Secretary for Natural Resources, speaking about the Bay-Delta Conservation Plan (BDCP) and the related programs surrounding the Bay-Delta. Jerry was appointed by Governor Brown in January 2011 to serve as Deputy Secretary, where he is leading the Governor’s Bay-Delta Conservation Plan. Logue Brining CDFA Secretary Karen Ross to Yuba City
Assemblyman Dan Logue will be hosting an agriculture town hall meeting with Secretary of CDFA Karen Ross, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, June 17 at the Veteran’s Memorial Building in Yuba City. This will be an opportunity for farmers and ranchers to discuss the agricultural issues facing the North State. Assemblyman Logue will hold press availability at 5:30 prior to the town hall.
